After leaving school I had a brief spell at college, then a friend offered me a job in a door manufacturing company. A few years later, I was then given the opportunity to become a postman - a job which I thoroughly enjoyed. I then took a step into the unknown and opened my own business, a convenience store of all things! After selling the business I started out working as a porter in Ninewells Hospital. I loved the interaction with patients and found it was a very fulfilling job. Life changed for me in the November of 2020, when my mother passed away at home and this would be my first time dealing with Affertons, and in particular Paul and Ronnie, who took my mum into their care. From the first phone call I made to Paul to the funeral itself, these guys were first class and took care of everything. For that, I will always be thankful to them both. I then thought maybe this is a career for me, by helping people at their hardest of times. I applied for a job vacancy that Affertons had advertised and was delighted to be offered the position. I started working with Affertons in January 2022. With the training, guidance and support I have received from Paul and Ronnie and tapping into their wealth of knowledge of funeral directing, I am now looking after families and arranging funerals for their loved ones. It’s a position I feel very privileged to be in.
